Two countries are on the verge of war! United States intervened

US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller made a written statement on the matter.

“We urge Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and the Serbian government to immediately and unconditionally release the three Kosovo policemen detained on June 14,” Miller said, adding that the arrest of the policemen only exacerbates the already tense situation.

Miller also reiterated calls for Serbia and Kosovo to implement the three-point plan outlined by the European Union (EU) and return to EU-backed dialogue.

TENSION BETWEEN TWO COUNTRIES

On May 26, Kosovar Serbs protested the election of Albanian mayors who won local elections on April 23 in the municipalities of Zveçan, Zubin Potok and Leposavic, where Serbs are concentrated in northern Kosovo.

As protests continued in the region, the Kosovo police and KFOR surrounded municipal buildings with barbed wire and increased the number of troops in the region.

There was a clash between the Kosovo police, who were sent to the region to protect the Albanian mayors, and the Kosovo Serbs.

Kosovo police detained Serb Milun Milenkovic in northern Mitrovica on June 13 for being one of the organizers of attacks on KFOR elements and Kosovo police.

While Serbia detained 3 people, determined to be members of the Kosovo police, on June 14 in the border region of the two countries on the grounds that they were “planning an action in Serbia”, Kosovo argued that the policemen were kidnapped. for Serbia.

Serbia reacted to Milenkovic’s arrest and Serbian leader Aleksandar Vucic claimed that Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti wanted to start a war.

Viewing Kosovo, which unilaterally declared its independence in 2008, as its own territory, Serbia also decided to position its army on the border with Kosovo. (AA)
