Crisis at NATO meeting… They blamed Turkey

Speaking to Reuters, the diplomat said Turkey objected to the statement on the geographic locations which also referred to Cyprus and prevented the decision from being made. The same diplomat affirmed that there is an opportunity to find a solution to the problem before the NATO Summit to be held in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, on July 11 and 12.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said the defense ministers reviewed the plans on the meeting agenda and are close to reaching an agreement. Thousands of pages of secret military plans called “regional plans” in the alliance’s notebook contain details of how NATO will respond to a possible Russian attack.

A GREAT CHANGE OF STRATEGIES IS EXPECTED

Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the renewal of these plans came to the fore for the first time after the Cold War.

According to Turkish BBC news, the latest events point to a fundamental change in NATO’s strategies.

For a long time, the Alliance did not need such comprehensive defense plans, as Russia posed no existential threat to NATO after the minor wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and the collapse of the Soviet Union. But the Russian invasion of the Ukraine started the bloodiest war in Europe since 1945.

NATO: ALL PLANS MUST BE PREPARED

NATO also advises alliance member countries that all plans must be in place in the event of a war with an enemy such as Russia.

The Alliance will advise member countries on how to develop their alliances and increase their logistics capacity.

“Although the regional plans are not officially approved today, we believe they will be ready at the Vilnius NATO Summit,” a senior US official told Reuters.
