Austria sends troops to Iraq for NATO mission
In a written statement from the Foreign Ministry, it was said that Austria, which is neutral and not a member of NATO, will send 10 troops to Iraq.
Noting that Iraq plays a key role in maintaining stability in the region, it was emphasized that the security of this country directly affects Europe and Austria.
“By participating in the NATO Training and Consulting Mission, we will support our Iraqi allies’ fight against terrorism, the causes of migration and irregular migration,” the statement said, adding that Iraq’s humanitarian and diplomatic efforts Austria to this country will also continue.
OPENING OF EMBASSY IN BAGHDAT
In the statement, it was shared that Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg will pay an official visit to Iraq at the end of this year and will open the Austrian Embassy in Baghdad.
By adopting the principle of neutrality after World War II, Austria does not become a member of any military alliance or a direct party to military conflicts.
However, the Austrian army has carried out several missions in the NATO initiative called “Partnership for Peace” established in 1994.
On June 22, a parliamentary session will be held to send troops to the NATO Mission in Iraq. As a result of the decision to be made here, the soldiers will be able to go to Iraq. (AA)
