President Erdogan’s message to Greece
President Erdoğan and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Ersin Tatar held a joint press conference at the Presidential Palace after face-to-face and inter-delegation meetings.
Erdogan said: “I have assumed the duty to serve my country for another 5 years as president, with the favor of our beloved nation. We have continued this tradition by making my first foreign visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus after we took office. From here I will go to Azerbaijan, which is another step in our tradition. I am in Azerbaijan tonight, we will hold our meetings there and tomorrow we will return to Ankara.”
ELECTRICAL TRANSFER FROM TURKEY TO TRNC BY CABLE
Stating that they discussed all the items on their agenda in detail in their meetings with Ersin Tatar, Erdoğan continued as follows:
* “Among them, undoubtedly, the most important step will be to provide electricity transfer from Turkey to Northern Cyprus via cable regarding the electricity problem. With this, there will no longer be a problem like power cuts in Northern Cyprus. We assess the current situation regarding the question of Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean. The Turkish side has always taken a constructive and result-oriented attitude on the Cyprus issue. The legitimate claims of the ancient and essential element of the island, the Turkish Cypriots, are clear and unequivocal. Turkish Cypriots have never been a minority and never will be. Those who are ignorant of these facts continue to be comforted by their dreams of being the sole ruler of the Island. I advise these people to put aside their obsessions and face the realities of Ada.
“It was wasted due to the irreconcilable and maximalist approaches of the Greek Cypriot side”
* Despite the efforts of the Turkish Cypriots, more than half a century was wasted due to the maximalist and intransigent approaches of the Greek Cypriot side. No one can bear to lose another 50 years. The confirmation of the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriots, which are their acquired rights, is indispensable for us. If there is to be a return to the negotiating table, the path to it is recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. This is essentially the realistic and results-oriented vision that President Mr. Tatar presented at the last informal meeting in Geneva, which we also support.”
“CONFIDENTIAL SUGGESTIONS OFFERED BY THE TURKISH CYPRUS SIDE STILL ON THE TABLE”
Noting that they also discussed the Eastern Mediterranean dimension of the Cyprus issue with TRNC Chairman Tatar, President Erdoğan said: “We will continue to resolutely defend the rights and interests of Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. On this occasion, I would like to remind you that the concrete proposals put forward by the Turkish Cypriot side for the equitable distribution of hydrocarbon resources in and around the island of Cyprus are still on the table. Unfortunately, my proposal to organize a regional conference on issues related to the Eastern Mediterranean did not meet with a response. he used his statements.
Noting that the steps taken were left unanswered, Erdogan said:
* “Despite this, we have always given priority to dialogue as a guarantor country. Those who engage in senseless arms activities against the balance sheets on the island and in the region must carefully calculate the risks that these attempts will bring. The peace and security of our brothers on the island means our peace and security. As the Homeland, we support the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus with all our means and capabilities. As we continue to support sincere settlement efforts, we will also continue our contributions to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. We will make sure that our citizens here receive health services from the public on equal terms with our citizens in Turkey.
* Soon we will start the construction of 1192 social houses in the Derinya region. Among our priorities is the manufacture and laying of bidirectional electrical transmission cable. In the field of transportation, we have so far built a total of 630 kilometers of roads in Northern Cyprus. Construction continues on 5 separate highway projects with a total length of 62 kilometers. Soon we will make available to our producers the water that we bring from Turkey for agricultural irrigation. We are also going to submit a bid for the 500-bed State Hospital in Nicosia soon. My assistant Cevdet Bey will coordinate the work on this. With these thoughts in mind, I would like to thank all my Turkish Cypriot brothers and sisters, especially Mr. President, for his hospitality. I wish our meetings today to be fruitful.”
Noting that he will send Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz to the TRNC to quickly rectify the deficiencies at the airport, Erdoğan said: “I plan to land here on July 20. I wish you a good day, see you on July 20”. saying.
“OUR ROADMAP IS ALREADY DEFINED”
President Erdogan and TRNC Chairman Tatar took questions after their remarks.
Recalling that there has been a moderate atmosphere in Turkey-Greece relations recently, and that one of the leaders who called for congratulations after the election victory was former Greek Prime Minister and New Democracy Party leader Kiryakos Mitsotakis, Erdoğan said: Will there be a road map for Turkey regarding the solution of the problems in Turkey? If a table is established on the Ankara-Athens line, will there be a precondition for Turkey to sit at this table? He responded to the question as follows:
* “Our roadmap is already clear. This roadmap is indexed in peace. Because there is no other way out than peace in these seas, and if there are those who want to prevent peace, then we will have to apply a different project. We want such obstacles not to come our way and that the Aegean Sea gives its message to the world as a sea of peace”.
