Former Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has been arrested in connection with a lengthy investigation into the funding of her Scottish National Party (SNP). Sturgeon, 52, was party leader and prime minister from 2014 to 2023.
The SNP allegedly cheated money extensively. Sturgeon’s husband Peter Murrell is also involved in this case as a former party boss. He was arrested in early April and interrogated for twelve hours. The police suspect that those involved, especially Murrell and now also Sturgeon, have been manipulating the party treasury for years and that money has disappeared from it. These would be donations for a value of around 700,000 euros.
The money was allegedly raised for the organization of a second independence referendum, but was apparently not spent on it. Police Scotland searched several places. Sturgeon resigned at the end of March.
