Fugitives on the Turkish ship threatened the crew: Italian soldiers landed on the ship by helicopter
The Italian Defense Ministry announced that Italian forces landed on the ship by helicopter after fugitives from the Turkish-flagged ship Galata Seaways threatened the crew.
As a result of the operation, it was claimed that 22 Turkish citizens and 3 passengers were brought to safety.
In a statement from the Italian Defense Ministry, “The Coast Guard Command took action when the merchant ship reported the possibility of a hijacking. The helicopters immediately took off from the Grottaglie base at around 3:00 p.m. and reached the commercial ship, which was sailing some 60 miles off the coast of Naples.
Italian forces were reported to have landed on the ship and conducted the operation using the fast rope technique.

In addition, it was reported that the ship anchored in the port of Naples.
Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto said: “I congratulate the Navy, the Armed Forces and the Security Forces for a great operation in close cooperation. Each did their part. Congratulations,” he said.

The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, shared on his social media account about the operation: “The operation, which we followed and coordinated from the beginning to the end, was successfully completed. The stowaways of the Turkish-flagged Galata Seaways Ship were captured by Italian security forces and disembarked. We would like to thank all of our contributing staff; I convey my best wishes to our sailors,” he said.
