New York City mayor sues county governments

New York Mayor Eric Adams has filed a lawsuit against 30 counties that refused to welcome some of the city’s tens of thousands of illegal immigrants into their boroughs.

In his written statement, Adams claimed that the case in question is aimed at ending “xenophobic bigotry” and added: “(The case) is aimed at having our state act as one body as we work together to manage this humanitarian crisis. fairly and humanely.” Mayor Adams continued:

“Since this crisis began, New York City has fought almost alone to provide refugees with shelter, food, clothing and other services. But every district in the state must also do its part.”

Adams filed this lawsuit after at least 30 New York district administrations did not want to accommodate irregular immigrants in hotels in their districts “so as not to endanger public safety.” The lawsuit says the counties’ decision was an “illegal attempt” to spare New York City from facing a statewide emergency and humanitarian crisis.

The file highlighted that there are still around 47,200 irregular migrants in the city center and that “a major emergency and humanitarian crisis is already underway.”

Adams announced Monday that they had started a joint program with various religious groups to meet the basic and housing needs of some of the irregular immigrants. The New York mayor announced that to date he has spent $1.2 billion of his own budget for irregular migrants, and criticized the limited aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) of $40 million.

THE GROWING PROBLEM OF IRMIGRANTS IN THE UNITED STATES

The governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, who affirmed that certain states carry the burden of irregular immigrants and that this is not fair, strongly criticized the immigration policy of US President Joe Biden and his administration, and announced that he will allocate a budget of 12 million dollars for the transfer of irregular immigrants from Florida to other states.

The mayor of New York, Eric Adams, who affirmed that there must be a real reform in immigration policy to overcome the crisis of irregular migrants, called on the Republican Party to stop blocking this issue.

Illegal immigrants entering the US are searched by border police and bused to shelters. Irregular immigrants, whose procedures have been completed, can move freely in the US until the cut-off date they are notified.

Red states such as Texas and Florida send some of them to Democratic-dominated states such as the capital Washington, New York, Massachusetts and California, arguing that they cannot bear the burden of immigrants alone. (AA)
