US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy addresses insurgent Republicans. They are not satisfied with the agreements made on the US debt ceiling. In revenge, they are now blocking a vote on a completely different law. Reuters reports.
A group of 11 conservative Republican Party members in the House accuse McCarthy of treason. McCarthy was elected leader of the Republicans a year ago thanks to the support of this wing of Trump. But on condition that, if they were dissatisfied with the policy, they could also vote on McCarthy’s future. This agreement would have been violated.

In protest, these members threaten to vote in favor of new environmental rules, while Republicans actually want to reject this plan. The vote was scheduled for Wednesday morning local time, but has been postponed. It is not known whether the vote will take place at a later stage. “We’ll see,” McCarthy told US media reporters.
Hardliners aren’t just among House Republicans who previously opposed McCarthy’s election as Speaker of the House of Representatives. They are also among 71 Republicans who strongly oppose recent debt ceiling deals.
They claim McCarthy failed to deliver on promised cuts and ignored members’ input. “We are ready to reforge the unit that was destroyed last week,” said Representative Dan Bishop.
