North Korean hacker group targets South Korean politicians

According to the Yonhap report, in the National Police Agency (NPA) statement, it was claimed that Kimsuky sent fake emails to 150 politicians on diplomacy and security issues in order to steal the information of the people in question.

In the statement, it was claimed that the hacker group sent misleading emails to these individuals in April-July 2022 that would direct them to fake sites and simultaneously follow them for four to nine months.

The statement said that the South Korean intelligence agency analyzed approximately 5,800 emails sent by Kimsuky, and after taking necessary actions, it was determined that the hacker group in question was behind the entire operation.

The Seoul government unilaterally imposed sanctions on the Kimsuky group on June 2.

The report, published by Google’s cybersecurity unit Mandiant, revealed that Kimsuky stole cryptocurrency to finance spying operations related to North Korea’s nuclear program.

Hackers were claimed to have laundered stolen cryptocurrency through cloud mining services. (AA)
