Hungry lions attacked settlements
It was claimed that the lions, unable to find food due to the drought in Kenya, entered the settlements and started attacking farm animals.
Parkeru Ntereka, who has a farm near Kenya’s Amboseli National Park, told reporters that lions attacked his goats and about half of his animals were killed. Ntereka said: “My 12 goats were attacked by lions and it is a great loss for my family. I used to cover my children’s school expenses with these animals,” he said.
Rosi Lekimankusi also stated that 13 of her goats were attacked by lions and stressed that this situation puts them in a difficult situation and that she is concerned about the increase in attacks.
Although The Big Life Foundation, which conducts surveys for wildlife protection, offers compensation to villagers for animals attacked by lions, villagers believe that the amount given is not enough.
Last month, six lions were killed after attacking goats and a dog in villages near Amboseli National Park. Among the dead was Loonkiito, one of the oldest lions in the world. (AA)
