Finland’s scandalous decision: They did not get results from the research on the action with the Erdogan model

After the war that began with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year, a new crisis looms between Finland and Turkey, which applied to join NATO along with Sweden and officially became a NATO member in April.

In March, when it was not yet a member of NATO, a group of sympathizers of a terrorist organization organized an action against Turkey and President Erdoğan in Helsinki, the capital of Finland. Although a model of President Erdogan was used in the action, the police managed to disperse the protesters.

In the action that took place in front of the Turkish embassy on Kaivopuisto street in Helsinki, the protesters wanted to smear the model with a liquid similar to blood and the police intervened. Following the events, the Helsinki police announced yesterday that the investigation has been completed.

Detective Chief Investigator Juha-Matti Suominen, who issued a press release on the incident, said: “We treated the attack as an attempt as the police intervened during the incident. Attempted defamation is not punishable under Finnish criminal law. “Therefore, there is no reason to treat this case as a criminal suspicion.”

However, Suominen stated that the protesters were found to be carrying a large number of weapons and that the investigation is continuing on these grounds. Suominen said: “The case includes crimes such as threats, disturbance of the peace, and transporting objects and substances that may harm others.”

WHAT HAPPENED?

Turkey and Hungary opposed Finland, which wants to become a NATO member along with Sweden, and Ankara called on both countries to harmonize their anti-terror laws and cooperate in the fight against terrorism.

While this debate between the three countries was going on, a group of terrorist activists took to the streets in Finland and Sweden and organized an action in Helsinki and Stockholm, which included a model of President Erdoğan. While the event in Finland didn’t get much attention, what happened in Stockholm brought tensions between Turkey and Sweden to breaking point.

Activists in Finland also informed the police ahead of the protest, but they made a false statement by claiming that Erdogan’s model would be used for a “dance performance”. While sympathizers of the terrorist organization tried to spill blood on the model, the police intervened and prevented the protesters.
