US press reports on Turkey’s brain drain: “I felt powerless”

The brain drain abroad due to the growing economic crisis and political debates in Turkey has been on the agenda of the US press.

The Business Insider website published a story highlighting the reasons why young people gave up living in Turkey, sharing the experience of 30-year-old Bengisu Yıldız, who moved to the Netherlands from Turkey in search of a better life. .

Stating that he moved to the Netherlands last year in search of a new lifestyle and better job opportunities, Yıldız said, “Right now, I feel lucky. I am in good shape financially. I live in a nice city, in a good apartment. This was not the case when I was in Istanbul,” he said.

In the news, it was noted that unemployment is high in Turkey and inflation exceeded 43 percent in April, while this rate was 5.2 percent in the Netherlands. Noting that people prefer to live in the Netherlands for a better work-life balance, Business Insider claimed that the majority of the 2 million people living in the country are foreigners.

Explaining that there are many foreigners from different countries in Amsterdam, Bengisu Yıldız stated that he is satisfied with his hybrid work as a designer and the international working environment. Stating that he was reviewing his working life and thinking more about his financial situation as he approached 30, Yıldız said, “I love Turkey, but the economy and politics are in a very sad state right now. moment. “I felt powerless to change what had happened, and I said to myself, ‘At least I can go and earn some money while I’m still young,'” he said.

Noting that she is trying to maintain her work-life balance, Yıldız stated that she goes to the gym a few days a week and walks. On the other hand, the young woman pointed out that she misses the food in Turkey and the sense of unity, and that individualism is stronger in the Netherlands.

Stating that he wanted to return to Turkey after earning a little more money, Yıldız said that he wanted to do good things in his country, saying, “Maybe he will open a farm in the city there that will create job opportunities for the youth.”
