Death toll rises in India train crash

Loss of life reached 294 in the accident where two passengers and a freight train collided in the Balasore region of northeast India’s Odisha state.

Speaking to Indian media, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the investigation into the accident has been completed and the report will be shared with the public as soon as possible.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a statement about the accident: “I feel deep pain due to the Balasore train accident. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. The families of the deceased cannot be compensated for their losses, but the government will do everything possible to help them. “This fact is very serious for the government, all kinds of investigations have been ordered and whoever is found guilty will receive the most severe sanction,” he said.
