Reaction to Hezbollah’s show of force: ‘State within a state’

The Lebanese government’s reaction to Hezbollah’s show of force

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati said he condemned Hezbollah’s armed exercise in the south of the country on May 21 and did not accept a “state within a state.”

According to a statement from the Lebanese government press office, Prime Minister Mikati criticized the armed exercise carried out by Hezbollah two weeks ago in the south of the country, in statements to Euronews. Noting that the Lebanese state is not under anyone’s hegemony, Mikati said: “We do not accept the existence of a state within a state. “I am the first to criticize the practices that are going to affect the country’s sovereignty,” he said.

Mikati stated that he condemns the armed exercises carried out by Hezbollah in the south of the country.

Mikati asserted that the solution to the problem of “Hezbollah weapons” is not in the hands of the government alone, and that a comprehensive and comprehensive agreement is needed in Lebanon on this issue.
Mikati also said: “I will never allow Hezbollah to use its weapons inside the country.

“I am committed to my government’s program to resist the Israeli occupation of Lebanese territory,” he said.
