Biden explained to journalists: he underlined what he told Erdogan

US President Joe Biden explained what he said by stating that he met with President Erdogan on Monday.

While it was claimed that Biden was calling because of Erdogan’s re-election as president, Ankara was reportedly willing to buy US F-16s, but Biden told Erdogan to “stop objecting to Sweden’s membership in NATO”.

Answering questions from reporters at the White House on the way to Delaware, Biden said: “I spoke to Erdogan. I congratulated him. He still wants to work on F-16s. I also said we want a deal with Sweden and called for action. So we We will contact you again,” he said.

“WE TALK AGAIN THIS WEEK”

Asked if Erdogan had any expectations about Sweden’s participation in NATO, Biden said: “I brought up this topic. We will talk about this in more detail next week, ”he said.

After Russia invaded Ukraine, Sweden, which wanted to join NATO with Finland, was approved by other countries except Turkey and Hungary.

$20 BILLION DEAL

Turkey also announced that it wanted to buy F-16s and 80 retrofit kits worth about $20 billion. However, the request was received coolly in the US Senate due to Ankara’s objections to NATO enlargement, events in Syria and other human rights issues.

A much smaller deal was struck earlier this year, involving a $259 million software upgrade.

Speaking to Britain’s Reuters news agency, a source said Washington said: “If Ankara does not give Sweden the green light, it will be difficult for the Senate to approve the sale of the F-16.”
