Solingen Message from the German Chancellor

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz remembered members of the Genç family, who lost their lives in a house burned down by the far right on May 29, 1993.

Scholz made a statement on Twitter on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Solingen disaster: “30 years ago it was a dark day in Solingen. The far-right murder of 5 people of Turkish origin reminds us that we must protect everyone who lives here, punish the criminals and help the victims.”

Stating that much can be achieved by respecting a diverse society, Scholz also included the photograph of the house that was burned down, with the names of Gürsün İnce, Hatice Genç, Gülüstan Öztürk, Hülya Genç and Saime Genç, who lost their lives in its post.

German President Frank Walter Steinmeier also shared a photo of the house that burned down in the Solingen disaster on his Instagram account, saying: “30 years ago, four far-right groups burned down the house of a Turkish family in Solingen. . Gürsün İnce, Gülüştan Öztürk, Hatice, Saime and Hülya Genç lost their lives in the flames. The attack was the culmination of the far-right wave in the early 1990s.”

The Foreign Office reported that racism has increased in Europe since the 1993 attack in Solingen, Germany. In the written statement made by the Ministry, it was stated that 5 citizens who lost their lives as a result of the fire set in their houses by the racist group on May 29, 1993 in the city of Solingen were commemorated with respect and mercy on the 30 anniversary of the vile attack.

In the statement stressing that xenophobia, racism and Islamophobia continue to rise in Europe in the 30 years since the Solingen attack, it was reported that this was followed with concern.

On May 29, 1993, in Solingen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, the house of the Genç family at Untere street burned down Werner Gürsün İnce (28), Hatice Genç (19), Gülüstan Öztürk (12), Hülya Genç (9) and Saime attack, Young (5) dies.

The captured perpetrators Markus Gartmann, Felix Köhnen, Christian Reher and Christian Buchholz were released after serving their prison sentences. The perpetrators, whose identities are kept secret, continue their lives in Germany. (AA)
