US support for diplomat Sudan wants to be replaced
In a statement, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller stressed UN Representative-Sudan Volker Perthes’ support for UN work within the scope of the Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS).
Miller expressed concern about the letter from the Sudanese army demanding Perthes’s resignation.
Miller stated that Perthes continues to have the confidence of the United States for his mission under UNITAMS and its support in helping the Sudanese people achieve a peaceful and democratic future.
HE SENT A LETTER TO GUTERRES
General Abdulfettah al-Burhan, the chairman of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council and army commander, has asked UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to nominate an alternative candidate to UN representative to Sudan Volker Perthes.
Burhan claimed that Perthes had misinformed in the reports he submitted to them, arguing that there was a consensus on the framework agreement signed on December 5, 2022 between the military and civilian groups, and that these accusations clearly contradicted the facts.
Arguing that Perthes’ presence had a negative impact on impressions towards the UN, Burhan claimed that the time Perthes was in charge of the mission was an indication that UNITAMS did not contribute to the successful transition.
Burhan wrote in his letter: “We ask UN Secretary General Guterres to name an alternative candidate to Perthes.” he had used the words.
THE CRISIS DOES NOT END IN THE COUNTRY
In the statement made on the Twitter account of the UN Secretary General’s Spokesperson, it was noted that Guterres was shocked by the letter he received from Burhan.
In the statement, it was emphasized that Guterres was proud of the work of the UN representative in Sudan, Volker Perthes, and reaffirmed his full confidence in him.
– Framework agreement signed between the military and civilians

The HDK was formed as a militia structure to fight rebels, protect borders and maintain order in Darfur during the term of President Omar al-Bashir, who was ousted in a 2019 coup. attached to the Security and Intelligence Organization in 2013 and gradually gained an independent structure, it has tens of thousands of members.
