Serbian president resigns as party leader
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced that he is leaving the leadership of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) at the session held today.
Vucic, in his speech at the SNS session held in Kragujevac and attended by 3,792 delegates, stated that he “loves the SNS very much and will never leave the party as long as he lives, even if he leaves its leadership.” Noting that he is proud to be the leader of SNS for 11 years, Vucic said, “I recommend Milos Vucevic to the new leadership of SNS (Defense Minister). He will meet all of us and express his decision to become the new party leader. I suggest we choose Milos Vucevic,” he said.
Vucevic, who was chosen as the new leader after the close vote, thanked Chairman Vucic and the delegates who supported him, saying, “I hope to be worthy of the honor and responsibility that have been bestowed on me today.” Noting that SNS policy will not change, Vucevic said: “This is not a disconnect, it is a unique story and we are opening a new chapter in our book. We will continue to be a party that aims at the development of our homeland. “We will remain a party that nurtures and protects the traditional values of the Serbian people, of all Serbian citizens,” he said.
Referring to the events in the north of Kosovo, Vucevic said that Serbia will look after the interests of all Serbs, including the Kosovo Serbs. Vucevic also noted that they intend to participate in “a popular movement” at the end of June, and that detailed information on this issue will be given in the next period. (AA)
