Pro-Russian administration in Crimea confiscates Zelensky’s summer house

In Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014, the administration seized many properties, including the house Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy used as a summer residence in Crimea.

The pro-Russian governor of Crimea, Sergey Aksenov, announced that they will expropriate 57 properties belonging to Ukrainian businessmen described as “enemies” on the peninsula. “Crimea will claim its rights to several buildings,” Aksenov said. “Russia’s enemies will not be able to make money in Crimea,” he said.

Among the confiscated properties is a luxury three-bedroom house in Yalta on the Black Sea coast, registered to Zelensky’s wife. Due to restoration and warfare on the $800,000 home, the Zelenskiy family did not have much time to use the summer home.

Also, among the properties that Russia plans to expropriate in Crimea is the Crimean Tatar Milli Majlis building in Akmescit.

THEY WILL USE IT TO FUND THE WAR

The Russian government will sell the expropriated properties at auction and use the proceeds to finance the war in Ukraine.

Russian officials stated that they would respect the right to private property in Crimea after annexation, but after Ukraine’s occupation, the Crimean administration began preparing a list of properties to be expropriated in the region.

It is claimed that a large number of properties belonging to Ukrainian businessmen have been confiscated so far.

Before being elected president in 2019, Zelenskiy was one of the most famous comedians in the country and the owner of a major television production company.
