Warning to the son of the prime minister who gave a party at the official residence

In Japan, Kishida Shotaro, the secretary and eldest son of Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, received a warning for an entertainment he hosted at his father’s residence.

The national magazine Shukan Bunshun published the news that Kishida Shotaro was having a party at the prime minister’s residence. News photos featured Kishida having fun with his family and foreign guests staying at the residence, and the pose of a person reclining on the red-carpeted stairs.

In the NHK State Television news, it was reported that Japan’s Prime Minister Kishida made the necessary reproaches to the party in question, its secretary and his son Kishida.

The main opposition party, the Constitutional Democratic Party (CDP), argued in its statement that the party set an example that public and private affairs cannot be separated. Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno Hirokazu said in a statement that strong warning was given to Kishida Shotaro, whose stance he described as “inappropriate.”

Noting that the government is aware of the situation, Matsuno said, “We will ensure the proper use and management of the (official residence) so that the incident does not happen again.”

Kishida, who assumed the presidency in October 2021, appointed his son, 31-year-old Kishida Shotaro, as executive secretary, in his first year in office. The Secretary of the Chief of Staff stated that at that time, the decision to appoint was made with the idea of ”putting the right person in the right place” based on the “personality and foresight of the person”.
