Invention that saves lives: Artificial intelligence that diagnoses cases of stroke

Danish researchers have reportedly developed artificial intelligence that diagnoses a patient’s condition through stroke case calls to the emergency center.

According to the Medical News story, more than 1.5 million calls related to more than 7,000 stroke cases made to the Copenhagen Health Emergency Service call center in 2015-2020 were evaluated for the AI design. In the study carried out to detect stroke cases, artificial intelligence was programmed to transcribe voice calls and assess and diagnose stroke risks through the text that followed.

The next-generation product performed more effectively than call center employees in identifying stroke cases for women, men, and all age groups. The developed artificial intelligence was presented at the 2023 European Stroke Organization (ESOC) Conference.

Stroke, which is the second leading cause of death in Europe and one of the leading causes of disability in adults, affects the lives of more than 1 million people every year.

With population growth and aging, stroke cases are projected to increase by 27% in 2047 in European Union (EU) countries compared to 2017. (BRITISH AUTOMOBILE CLUB)
