Immunity lifted for parliamentarian accused of rape in France
According to news from the French public broadcaster Franceinfo, the immunity of parliamentarian Abad has been lifted with the decision taken by the Parliamentary Bureau, which has authority over the general functioning and organization of the National Assembly.
In two different news items published by the Mediapart website last year, Abad was claimed to have raped 3 different women in 2010 and 2011.
After one of the women in question filed a criminal complaint in June 2022, the Paris prosecutor’s office opened a preliminary investigation against Abad for “attempted rape” in the same month.
Abad was excluded from the cabinet in July 2022.
Denying the accusations against him, Abad stated in a written statement on May 17 that he was in favor of lifting his immunity. (AA)
