The Prime Minister of the interim government of Greece announced

Sakelaropulu invited Sarma to the Presidency after meeting with party leaders who had a caucus in parliament based on the election results.

“We have officially seen that it is not possible to form a government, so I have called it as a constitutional last resort for an interim government,” President Sakelaropulu told Sarma.

Sarmas said it was a great honor and a constitutional conviction, stating that he had accepted the mandate to become the government’s acting prime minister.

Ioannis Sarma, 66, who took over as interim prime minister until the second election, was born in 1957 in Kos.

After graduating from the Faculty of Law of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 1979, Sarma obtained a Master’s Degree (DEA) in Criminal Law (1980-1981) and Public Law (1982-1983) from Paris II University.

Sarma, who has served as the president of the Court of Accounts since November 4, 2019, is married with two children.

THE SECOND ELECTION IS JUNE 25

In the general elections held in Greece, according to unofficial results, New Democracy won more than 40 percent of the vote (146 seats), beating its closest rival SYRIZA by 20 points, but could not reach the 151 seats needed to reach to power on his own.

New Democracy leader Kiryakos Mitsotakis and second party Radical Left Alliance (SYRIZA) leader Aleksis Tsipras also returned their mandate to form a government on the grounds that the necessary conditions for a coalition were not met.

The leader of the PASOK-KINAL alliance, Nikos Andrulakis, who came third in the elections, also rejected the mandate to form a government given to him by President Katerina Sakelaropulu.
Mitsotakis announced that he will speed up his work so that the second elections can be held on June 25. (AA)
