Former Pakistani PM Khan released on bail

Former Pakistani PM Khan released on bail

According to national media reports, Pakistan Justice Movement Party (PTI) leader Khan arrived in the capital Islamabad from Lahore to attend hearings on the cases he was trying.

The Anti-Terror Court decided that Han should be released on bail until June 8 in 8 cases in which he was tried.

There are more than 90 lawsuits filed against Han, who was dismissed in April 2022.

After the trial, Khan went to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) office in Rawalpindi regarding the Al Kadir University case, where he was questioned. Khan returned to Lahore after questioning him.

HIGH LEVEL RAPIDS

Former TI Human Rights Minister Shirin Mazari, in a statement in the capital Islamabad, condemned attacks on civilian and military property during the May 9 protests, announced her resignation from PTI and left politics.

Former Punjab Culture and Information Minister Feyyazul Hasan Çohan announced his resignation from the party with similar remarks.

In recent days, 5 names, including former deputies, have resigned from the PTI citing the aforementioned actions.

Former Premier Han, on the other hand, said in a statement on Twitter that these people were forced to resign from the party.

Khan said he conveyed his “good wishes” to politicians who left the party under pressure.

KURAISHI IS AGAINST ARREST

Former Foreign Minister and PTI Vice President Shah Mahmoud Qureshi was arrested again minutes after being released from Adiala prison where he was held in Rawalpindi.

In a statement before his arrest, Qureshi said he is still a member of the PTI.

Qureshi was arrested on charges of riot and arson after violent demonstrations on May 9.

At least 10 PTI supporters lost their lives in protests that began after Khan was arrested on May 9 in the case in which he is accused of corruption. Many public and private properties were damaged during the demonstrations and police vehicles were set on fire.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In June 2022, the coalition government claimed that Khan and his wife bought a large and expensive piece of land and billions of rupees from Pakistan’s top property magnate Malik Riaz to build Al Kadir University.

NAB stated that Khan’s PTI government made a deal with Riaz, which caused more than $239 million in losses to the national treasury.

In December 2019, Riaz agreed to hand over assets, including $239 million worth of property, to the UK’s National Crime Agency as part of an investigation into “black money”.

Pakistani Home Minister Rana Sanaullah said British authorities returned $239 million to Pakistan in connection with money laundering, but Khan handed over the money to Riaz instead of keeping it in the national treasury.

PTI leader Han, on the other hand, claimed that the accusations made by NAB were unfounded.

KHAN’S GOVERNMENT FALLS ON APRIL 10, 2022

In Pakistan’s parliament on April 10, 2022, in the confidence vote, Imran Khan’s government fell with 174 votes in favor.

Shahbaz Sharif, brother of Nawaz Sharif, who served as prime minister for three terms in the country, was elected prime minister with the support of an absolute majority with 174 votes in the election held in Parliament on April 11, 2022.

Khan started a march from Lahore to Islamabad on October 28, 2022, arguing that the coalition government did not declare early elections.

Khan was wounded in both legs when his convoy was fired on in Wazirabad on November 3, 2022. One person was killed and 13 people injured in the attack.

On May 8, the Pakistani military described former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s allegations that a senior intelligence official was behind his assassination as “irresponsible and baseless.”

Han was arrested on May 9 by decision of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). The development in question came after Khan accused a top intelligence official of being behind the assassination attempt against him.

On May 11, the Constitutional Court ruled that Han’s arrest was illegal and ordered his immediate release. (AA)
