Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida, reports Wednesday as a rival to former President Donald Trump. In a conversation with Twitter boss Elon Musk, he will announce that he will enter the race with the Republicans to become their candidate in the presidential elections at the end of next year.
“I’m about to interview Ron DeSantis and he has quite an announcement to make,” Musk confirmed. “It will be the first time something like this has happened on social media and with real-time Q&A.”
Transgender
In recent months, more and more observers have speculated that DeSantis would run for president. He toured the country and visited the states of Iowa and New Hampshire, among others. The governor of Florida presents himself as someone who shares many of Trump’s views, but who is more reliable than the former president. During the pandemic, he has come out strongly against the coronavirus measures, wants to limit the rights of transgender people and opposes stricter gun laws.
DeSantis has little chance of winning the fight inside the Republicans, according to polls. The party prefers Trump, who previously announced he still wants to beat Democrat Joe Biden after his defeat in 2020.
