Immigration step upsets foreign students from England

As part of the UK’s reduced immigration policy, it has been reported that international students will not be able to bring their dependents to the country from January 2024, except under certain conditions.

The UK Home Office has made a statement on visa application changes for families of student visa holders. In the statement, it was noted that international students cannot bring their dependents to the UK with them unless they are taking part in postgraduate education, defined as a research programme.

Said change was stated to take effect from January 2024 to give international students time to plan ahead.

Interior Suella Braverman, whose views were included in the statement, used the following statements:

“This package strikes the right balance between acting resolutely to address net immigration and preserving the economic benefits that students can bring to the UK. Now is the time to make these changes to have an impact on net migration as soon as possible. We expect this package to have a tangible impact on net migration. “Taken with temporary factors mitigating, we expect net migration to decline to pre-COVID-19 levels in the medium term.” (AA)
