Prince Harry will not be able to buy police protection
Prince Harry has been turning heads with the security issues he’s been raising for a while. In particular, the couple Harry and Markle, who announced their paparazzi chase last week to the press, were nearly ripped apart with a new decision this time.
The Duke of Sussex wanted to appeal the Supreme Court’s decision that he is not allowed to pay privately for his own security. However, Home Office lawyers argued that it is inappropriate for wealthy people to buy police security.
Prince Harry’s attempt to legally challenge the Home Office decision, which prevented him from privately paying for police protection while in the UK, was not allowed.
Judge Martin Chamberlain, in his written statement, stated that the request for judicial review of said decision was not accepted.
It should be noted that the decision was made after the paparazzi chase in New York City, USA, where Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, were to attend a ceremony last week.
Prince Harry and his wife, Megan Markle, were deprived of the police protection afforded to members of the royal family in the UK, after relinquishing their official duties with the Crown in 2020 and settling in the US. USA
The UK Home Office had decided in February 2020 that Prince Harry would no longer receive personal police protection while in the UK, including at his own expense. Lawyers for the Home Office had opposed allowing wealthy people to buy security from the police.
Prince Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, died in 1997 in a car accident while being chased by paparazzi in Paris, France.
Prince Harry also complained of excessive media attention and coverage in the process of stepping down from his Crown duties in January 2020 and settling in California with his wife Meghan to live a more independent life.
In an interview in February 2021, Harry claimed that the British press, which he described as toxic, destroyed his mental health and he feared that history would repeat itself due to the intense interest shown by his wife, just like his mother Diana. (AA)
