F-16
Delivery of F-16s to Ukraine was also discussed. President Biden said he supports joint training of Ukrainian F-16 pilots by Western countries. According to German Chancellor Scholz, the training sends the message that Russia shouldn’t expect an invasion, or even a protracted conflict, to be successful.
Zelensky spoke not only to the G7 countries during the summit. Countries such as India, South Korea and Brazil were also invited and sat around the table with the Ukrainian president. For him, it was an opportunity to seek support from neutral countries in the war. For example, he spoke to Indian Prime Minister Modi and South Korean President Yoon for the first time.
Lavrov
Not everyone is happy with the meeting in Hiroshima. According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the decisions taken at the G7 summit in Japan are aimed at blocking Russia and China. He spoke of a ‘double containment’ of the two countries.
