“Ukraine” warning from former NATO commander

He conducted a panel at the Washington-based Atlantic Council on Ukraine’s possible counterattack against Russian troops on its soil.

The panel was attended by former NATO commander Clark, former Defense Minister of Ukraine Andriy Zagorodnyuk and some experts as speakers.

Stating that he has deep concerns and hopes for the Ukraine counterattack, Clark said: “This war is different from the wars the United States and, of course, Russia have seen so far. Operational security is quite difficult. There are drones in this environment, satellites, electronic information systems, all kinds of reconnaissance and counter-exploitation tools. From the outside, we don’t know what their situation is in the ongoing battle of surveillance and counter-surveillance.” He used the phrase.

Noting that there are concerns about how Ukraine will blind Russian satellites, whether the Russians will be able to interfere with its communication networks and to what extent Russia can withstand the intense air campaign, Clark said he worries the war will drag on. it will take a long time and the logistics will be very difficult.

Clark, on the other hand, stressed that the United States and Western countries are hopeful for the outcome of the war as long as they support the Ukrainian army.

“IT WAS A TERRIBLE MICROMANAGEMENT”

Stating that US administrations have moved cautiously to avoid confrontation with great powers in all recent wars, Clark continued as follows:

“If you look at what happened in the Korean War, when[former North Korean leader]Kim Il Sung entered the demilitarized zone, we didn’t put our forces forward with all our might. We hired MacArthur (former US Chief of Staff) to avoid a confrontation with Russia, but he flew us in the DMZ with Russian pilots. The war finally ended with the death of Stalin.

MacArthur was removed from office and Eisenhower became president and planted atomic bombs on the Korean peninsula, only then was a ceasefire achieved. We took the same approach in Vietnam. At the White House, we argued amongst ourselves, ‘should we hit a railroad crossing or a bridge?’ We said ‘attack a point 3 times a day at 10:00, 14:00 and 16:00’. It was terrible micromanagement. Failed.”

Explaining that the United States abandoned this approach in Afghanistan and Iraq because there was no great power that could confront it, Clark said: “Now there is a force that we can confront. If we believe in Western democratic values, we have to increase the risk step by step and show that we will not surrender the flag no matter what he does to Putin.” he said.

Clark asserted that the US should turn to China and that the long duration of the Ukraine war is not beneficial to the US, adding: “Russia has nuclear weapons. Can we tell Putin that we are ready for this? The administration must analyze what it has to do to achieve its strategic political objectives and how its military actions fit into them. he performed the assessment of it.

“WHEN WE MAKE A POLICY TO ANNUL CRIMEA, IT MEANS WE LOSE”

At the panel, the former Defense Minister of Ukraine Zagorodnyuk assessed the latest situation in Ukraine.

Noting that there is an intense effort for the Ukrainian army and that things are not as easy as they seem in the field, Zagorodnyuk said: “We must take Crimea. I can’t be optimistic enough to give it time,” he said.

Recalling that some ideas have been put forward in the US and Europe to prevent Ukraine from continuing to take Crimea, Zagorodnyuk said:

“This topic is also circulating among policy makers, but they lose it in the discussion. Giving up Crimea cannot be adopted as a policy under any circumstances. Because when you establish a policy of giving up to take back a part of your country, it means that you have already lost. We won’t do that.” (AA)
