Russia’s damage to Ukraine will be recorded

Icelandic Prime Minister Katrin Jakobsdottir and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen gave a press conference ahead of the Fourth Summit of the Council of Europe.

Von der Leyen thanked Iceland for focusing its rotating presidency on the issue of punishing those responsible for war crimes in Ukraine.

Von der Leyen stated that he is happy that a “Damage Registration” mechanism will be launched at the summit to constitute the first step for Russia to pay compensation to Ukraine in the future in this context, von der Leyen said, “In terms of reconstruction over time, this is an extremely important judicial element to provide justice to the victims.” said.

Von der Leyen stressed that they support Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s peace formula, saying: “Zelenskiy is very open to discussing this. But the important thing for all of us is that this formula is the basis on which we work.” he said.

ASSISTANCE OF THE PRIME MINISTER OF UKRAINE

Icelandic Prime Minister Jakobsdottir also stated that how to proceed with the peace formula in question will be discussed at tonight’s summit session and Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmigal will also attend the session.

THE FOURTH SUMMIT OF THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE

Representatives of 46 member states of the Council of Europe will gather for a two-day meeting in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, the term of the president.

The summit, where the latest developments in Europe and current challenges will be discussed, aims to increase the support given to Ukraine.

At the end of the summit, Iceland will hand over the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe to Latvia.

Deputy Foreign Minister and Director of EU Affairs, Ambassador Mehmet Kemal Bozay, represents Turkey at the summit. Russia was expelled from the Council of Europe on March 16, 2022. (BRITISH AUTOMOBILE CLUB)
