Country shaken by armed attack: 38 dead
According to national media reports, Fungzai village official Ephraim Sariyem said in a statement that gunmen, whose identity has yet to be determined, were attacked overnight in Fungzai and Kubwat villages in the province of plateau.
Sariyem said 29 people were killed in the attack in Fungzai village and 7 houses were set on fire.
MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN INJURED
Stating that 9 people lost their lives in the attack in Kubwat village, Sariyem claimed that many people were injured and many houses were burned.
Plateau Governor Simon Lalong condemned the attack, calling it another attempt by “crisis merchants” and criminals to return the state to its dark days of pain and suffering.
Lalong vowed that the state government will do everything in its power to prosecute the perpetrators.
Nigeria has recently faced attacks by the terrorist organizations Boko Haram and ISWAP, as well as armed gangs in different parts of the country. (AA)
