The headline of the Latvian Public Broadcasting (LSM) report was “Goodbye Kaliningrad, welcome back Königsberg”.

In the news, it was stated that, according to the decision made by the Latvian State Language Center on May 15, it was decided to use the name of Kaliningrad, which belongs to Russia on the Baltic Sea coast, as the historical names. “Karalauci”. or “Königsberg”.

Kaliningrad, a Russian territory located on the border of Poland and Lithuania, is known as Krolewiec in Polish, Karaliaucius in Lithuanian, and Karalauci in Latvian. The region in question is known as Königsberg in German history.

The “Committee for the Standardization of Geographical Names Outside the Republic of Poland” also decided to use the name of Kaliningrad as Krolewiec from May 9.

According to reports in the Baltic media, Lithuania is expected to take a similar step.
