Conflicts in Sudan have entered their second month, loss of life mounts

It has been reported that 822 civilians have been killed in clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (HDK) in Sudan since mid-April.

The Sudanese Doctors Union said in a statement: “Continued clashes have led to more casualties in the capital Khartoum and in some states.” The statement said 822 civilians have been killed and 3,215 injured, including in the capital Khartoum, al-Ubaid and the town of Al-Juneyne in West Darfur province since the start of the conflict.

Armed clashes broke out between the Sudanese army and the HDK on the morning of April 15 in the Sudanese capital Khartoum and other cities. The World Health Organization announced that the number of people who lost their lives in the conflict rose to 604 and the number of wounded to 5,127.

The “Jeddah Declaration” was signed on May 11 as a result of negotiations between the parties in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to stop the ongoing clashes between the army and the paramilitary NGO in Sudan. (AA)
