Special Counsel John Durham believes the FBI jumped to conclusions in the investigation into former President Donald Trump’s Russian ties during the 2016 presidential campaign. Durham worked on the report for four years, was nominated by Trump’s Attorney General . According to correspondent Jan Postma, Trump, who had previously spoken of the ‘crime of the century’, had hoped for more.
Durham concludes that the FBI had too little evidence and relied heavily on tips that came from Trump’s political opponents. Furthermore, the launch of the investigation would have been too hasty. Durham says the mistakes could have been avoided if the FBI had adhered to “its own principles of objectivity and integrity.”
Little evidence
Postma: ‘Durham blames the FBI confirmation bias. She says they searched too hard for evidence to confirm their suspicions. As a result, they didn’t see that there were too many indications pointing the other way and that they actually had very little hard evidence when they launched the investigation.
Durham also says the FBI did not treat the two campaigns equally in 2016. For example, the Clinton campaign was warned of possible outside influence, but the Trump campaign did not receive those warnings. It’s unfair, says Durham.’
Small news
Durham delivered his 306-page report to Congress yesterday. Trump responded on his social media platform Truth Social, where he claims that “the American people have been scammed.” Yet Durham did not deliver the level of revelations Trump had hoped for, Postma says. Trump’s expectations were very high. Durham would discover the crime of the century. In the end there were only three trials ».
Durham provided little new information in his research. Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller’s conclusions are also valid: Mueller investigated Russian interference in 2016. He concluded that there was contact between Trump’s team and Russia. “That investigation led to dozens of indictments and arrests of members of Trump’s campaign team,” Postma notes.
