In Pakistan, the Constitutional Court protests

According to Geo News television news, supporters of the Islamic Ulema Party (JUI-F), which is part of the Pakistan Democratic Movement coalition, gathered outside the court in the capital Islamabad. Supporters of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party also left Rawalpindi for the capital.

The crowd chanting slogans against former Prime Minister Han and Constitutional Court President Ömer Ata Bandial in front of the Constitutional Court started a sit-in around the court.
Protesters react to Bandial’s pro-Han stance.

JUI-F leader Mevlana Fazlur Rahman is expected to come to court and deliver a speech.

In Pakistan’s parliament on April 10, 2022, in the confidence vote, Imran Khan’s government fell with 174 votes in favor. Shahbaz Sharif, brother of Nawaz Sharif, who served as Prime Minister for three terms in the country, was elected Prime Minister with the support of an absolute majority with 174 votes in the elections held in Parliament on April 11, 2022.

Khan started a march from Lahore to Islamabad on October 28, 2022, arguing that the coalition government did not declare early elections.

Khan was wounded in both legs when his convoy was fired on in Wazirabad on November 3, 2022. One person was killed and 13 people injured in the attack.

On May 8, the Pakistani military described former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s claims that a senior intelligence official was behind his assassination as “irresponsible and baseless”.

Han was arrested on May 9 by decision of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). The development in question came after Khan accused a top intelligence official of being behind the assassination attempt against him. On May 11, the Constitutional Court ruled that Han’s arrest was illegal and ordered his immediate release.

The government, on the other hand, reacted to this decision by the president of the Constitutional Court, Bandial. (AA)
