Around one in three long-distance journeys on German railways will be canceled tomorrow, despite the nationwide strike being called off by railway employees. Since the unions canceled the two-day work stoppage well in advance, it has been difficult to re-establish a full timetable, according to the railway company Deutsche Bahn.
Some trains will also be canceled tonight, including on the regional track. Strikes continue against some regional carriers in the state of Bavaria.
Deutsche Bahn and rail union EVG reached an agreement on Saturday to call off the strike, after the transport company earlier filed a lawsuit to halt the actions. The parties in dispute have agreed to continue negotiations, which according to the union “the conflict over the collective labor agreement is far from concluded”.
No night trains
Earlier, Dutch Railways reported that sleeper trains crossing Germany to Switzerland and Austria will be canceled on Sunday evening. The ICE to and from Frankfurt and the IC to and from Berlin operate according to the normal schedule. With the regional carrier Arriva, the trains between Heerlen and Aachen do not run. Freight trains can only run normally from 18:00 on Monday evening, DB Cargo Netherlands reported.
