Ukrainian President Zelensky spoke to the Italian channel
Visiting Rome, the capital of Italy, for the first time since Russia attacked Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Zelenskiy answered questions from Italian journalists by taking part in an evening show on Italian state television after completing your official contacts.
Reminding that the Italian public is tired of supporting Kiev, Zelenskiy said: “Let’s imagine that Putin came to the NATO countries. Then you will send your citizens, your parents, your children to this war because you are members of the alliance. I am a pragmatic person. Your society should understand that; “It is better to help Ukraine than send your own citizens to war,” he said.
Zelenskiy said that they were able to protect their skies thanks to Italy and France, and that they would have lost more if it were not for the air defense systems taken from these countries. Stating that the important thing is to end the war, Zelenskiy stated that Putin is an aggressor and that they do not want to live in chaos.
Referring to the phone call he had with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Zelenskiy said: “We discussed important issues. I said that we trust Beijing not to supply weapons to Moscow. Xi replied that they will not supply weapons and will not support Russia.
“WE NEED PEACE, NOT A MEDIATOR”
Regarding the peace talks brought to the agenda by the Vatican and Pope Francis, Zelenskiy said: “I respect the Pope, but we need peace, not a mediator. We invite the Pope to work for a just peace like other leaders, but first we must do other things. “You can’t mediate with Putin, no country in the world can do that,” he said.
Expressing that he is not ready to talk to Putin, Zelenskiy said that the exit in Ukraine is a counterattack and that when they reach the Crimean border, support for Putin will decrease inside Russia.
WHEN WILL THE COUNTER-ATTACK HAPPEN?
Asked when the Ukrainian counterattack will take place, Zelenskiy said: “Important measures will be taken in a short time. We are preparing with great determination and important steps will come. We are motivated by this. I can’t give an answer about time and methods, but you’ll see. “We believe in victory,” he said.
Regarding the possibility of using nuclear weapons in the war, Zelenskiy said: “I don’t think Putin will use nuclear weapons. Nobody knows what is going through the mind of the President of Russia, but we should not be afraid. Putin has a great will to live and he will try to do anything to live.
The President of Ukraine also pointed out that he does not hesitate to hold a referendum in Crimea, but that such a referendum cannot be held on his territory because it is against the Ukrainian constitution. (AA)
