Impressive Politico Election Article: Erdogan Suffers From Ataturk’s Jealousy
The world’s leading broadcasters are closely following the May 14 elections.
In the shocking election analysis published in Politico, it was claimed that President Erdogan, who used the slogan “Century of Turkey”, fought with the century of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic, in the elections.
In the article titled “Turkey’s Centuries War” by Hugh Pope, former Turkey director of International Crisis Group, which has books on Turkey, it was noted that Erdoğan was unable to reach the position of Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey, and that he “suffered from Atatürk’s jealousy.”
Writing that Erdogan, who came to power in 2002, is one of Turkey’s most influential leaders, Politico said: “Well, can this save him from what some describe as ‘Ataturk jealousy’?” he posed the question. In the article, which pointed out that it was very difficult for everyone to reach the beginning of Atatürk’s career, it was stated that “Mustafa Kemal, who bravely led many fronts, forced the great powers to recognize the new Republic of Turkey with a hand of iron”.
‘THE CENTURY OF ATATÜRK WILL NOT END’
In the article on Atatürk’s reforms, modernization and secularism, it was noted that Erdogan rose from an amateur soccer player to the mayor of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and came to power with the support of the conservative section.
However, in the article, which pointed out that Erdogan’s vision of the Turkey Century could not reach the position of Atatürk’s Kemalist ideology, the article also addressed the rise of authoritarianism in recent years, the depreciation of LT, the inflation and internal conflicts.
Noting that the EU membership process has stalled and that neo-Ottomanism has also failed, Politico commented: “Some people think that Atatürk’s century will end soon.” In the article, it was stated that former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill called Atatürk “a hero” and that his image will remain on the walls of official institutions and on TL.
