8-day detention period for Imran Khan in Pakistan

In Pakistan, the court has approved former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is on trial for corruption, to remain in police custody for 8 days for questioning.

According to Dawn newspaper news, Khan was tried at the Police Guest House inside the Islamabad Police Department compound, which was granted court space status once for security reasons. The court approved Pakistan Justice Movement Party (PTI) leader Khan to remain in police custody for 8 days for questioning.

The court also accused Khan of selling official gifts given by foreign government officials in the years 2018-2022 when he was prime minister. The court ordered the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to bring Han to the next hearing on May 17.

On the other hand, after the arrest of the General Secretary of the PTI, Asad Omar, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Vice President of the PTI, Shah Mahmoud Qureshi, was also arrested today.

Demonstrations that began after Han’s arrest continue in various cities across the country. Protesters raided the Radio Pakistan office in Peshawar, rendering it unusable.
