Arrest of ex-PM puts Pakistan on its feet
Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, who was arrested yesterday on corruption charges, was brought before the courts under high security.
According to Dawn newspaper news, Khan was tried at the Police Guest House inside the Islamabad Police Department compound, which was granted court space status once for security reasons. Han’s lawyers reacted to this situation and demanded that the hearing be held in court.
While security around the Police Headquarters compound was increased to the highest level, secondary roads leading into the region were closed and containers were placed at many points. Officials announced that no one except those with permission can enter the court area.

PARTY LEADER ALSO ARRESTED
Shirin Mazari, one of the politicians of the Pakistan Justice Movement Party (PTI), announced on Twitter that Khan’s legal representatives were not allowed to meet him and the party representatives were not brought to court.
On the other hand, the general secretary of the PTI, Asad Omar, was arrested inside the complex of the High Court of Islamabad.
Last June, the coalition government claimed that Khan and his wife had bought billions of rupees worth of land from Pakistan’s top property magnate Malik Riaz to build an educational institute. NAB claims that Khan’s PTI government made a deal with Riaz, which inflicted more than $239 million in losses on the national treasury.
