Albanian Prime Minister Erdogan statement to anger opposition

As the presidential and parliamentary elections, which will take place on May 14, are entering the final round, the international community is closely watching developments.

International media organizations and news agencies publish comprehensive analysis on the electoral process and candidates in Turkey every day and take the pulse of the elections with detailed news. While the Green Party in Germany made a statement that the opposition was closer to victory in the election, a statement on the May 14 election came from the Balkan country of Albania.

Rama and Erdogan last met in December 2022 in Istanbul.

Thanks to the steps and reforms that were taken years ago, the liberalization of visas with the European Union was achieved.

“I DON’T WANT TO RESPECT BUT…”

Edi Rama, who has established close relations with President Erdogan in recent years and has spoken highly of Erdogan in the past, announced his support for Erdogan days before the elections. Rama, who praised Turkey at every opportunity, which helped the country after the earthquake in Albania in 2019 and also provided help for the Covid-19 vaccine, spoke yesterday about the elections.

Rama said: “Turkey is preparing for a very important election, this election is also important for the Balkans and Europe. It is undoubtedly the duty of the Turkish people to elect the leaders and governments they want. No one knows this better than them, but without disrespect to any of them, I would like to tell them to think about President Erdogan.”

COMMENT ATTRACTING THE ATTENTION OF EU-FOCUSED MEDIA ORGANIZATION

The Europe-based media organization Euractiv made some comments regarding Rama’s remarks, which commented on ErdoÄŸan as “visionary, brave and hard-working”.

The report stated: “Despite Rama’s words, the country has regressed democratically under Erdogan. According to the Freedom House think tank, Turkey has moved from the category of “partly free” to that of a “non-free country” in recent years. According to the Reporters Without Borders report, Turkey ranks high in the number of journalists in prison.

THE ELECTIONS ON MAY 14 ARE NOT ON THE AGENDA

Cem Özdemir, Prime Minister of Germany of Turkish origin, had evaluated the elections on May 14 some time ago.

Özdemir, Minister of Food and Agriculture for the Green Party, said the opposition seemed closer to victory on May 14 than it had been in years.
