The President of the European Commission went to kyiv
Von der Leyen spoke at the press conference after meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy during his visit to kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, on the occasion of Europe Day.
Expressing her satisfaction with Ukraine’s recognition of 9 May, when the foundations of the EU were laid, as Europe Day, von der Leyen recalled that the Commission asked Ukraine to work on 7 articles related to the accession process from Ukraine to the EU.
Von der Leyen said: “As Ukraine continues reforms at full speed, despite the war, it is working tirelessly and intensively on these seven steps. I would like to pay my deepest respect to this outstanding work. You know, you can count on our support and experience throughout the process.”
The President of the European Commission recalled that the Commission will give an oral report in June and a written report in October on Ukraine’s progress.
3-STAGE PLAN TO UKRAINE
He said they discussed many issues with Zelenskiy, the most important of which was providing the ammunition Ukraine needed.
Von der Leyen recalled that the EU is advancing in a three-stage plan with this objective and stated that the EU, on the other hand, continues to support Ukraine financially and impose sanctions on Russia.
“A COMMON COORDINATION PLATFORM WILL BE ESTABLISHED”
Referring to the grain export problem, von der Leyen said: “This is a difficult situation and we need a solution. The immediate priority now is for Ukraine’s transition to the EU to be carried out smoothly and at the lowest possible cost. This requires very close cooperation of the different stakeholders. For this reason, we will jointly establish a coordination platform so that the solidarity pathways are fully functional”. (AA)
