The EU shared the details of the 11th sanctions package
Under the 11th sanctions package it has prepared against Russia, the European Union (EU) focused on preventing breaches of existing sanctions and filling gaps in sanctions.
EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen made a statement after meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy as part of his visit to kyiv.
Noting that the issue of sanctions against Russia came to the fore at the meeting, von der Leyen said: “We continue to do everything possible to erode the war machine and income of (Russian President Vladimir) Putin.” saying.
Von der Leyen, emphasizing that the sanctions they put in place worked, “We have deprived Russia of important sources of revenue by reducing our imports from Russia by about 2/3.” he used the phrase.
SUBMITTED PROPOSAL: FOCUS ON CLOSING THE GAP
“We have already paid a heavy price to the Kremlin with 10 sanctions packages in a row.” Von der Leyen said that the Commission presented the proposal for the 11th sanctions package to member states.
Von der Leyen noted that the latest package focused on closing the gaps in sanctions, explaining that this was done in close cooperation with the G7 countries.
Stating that they will strengthen existing vehicles within the scope of the 11 sanctions package, von der Leyen stated that they will add more products such as advanced technology and aircraft parts to the transit ban, and that the products in question cannot pass into Russia from the third countries.
Noting that they will also take additional measures, Von der Leyen said: “Recently, we have seen quite extraordinary growth in foreign trade flows between the EU and certain third countries. These products then go to Russia. Therefore, we propose a new tool to combat the circumvention of sanctions”. he said.
Explaining that the new tool will be a last resort, von der Leyen stated that it will be used carefully after the EU member states approve it after a very rigorous risk analysis.
Von der Leyen, emphasizing that they are working against sanctions non-compliance, said: “In this package, we propose to ban shadow entities in Russia and in third countries that have deliberately circumvented our sanctions.” saying.
Von der Leyen said that the EU continues its financial support to Ukraine and that they have delivered 6 billion euros of the 18 billion euro aid package that has been pledged for 2023.
Von der Leyen added that they started working on the continuation of financial support to Ukraine in the coming years.
At this stage, the EU member states will assess the new sanctions package.
The proposed new EU sanctions package was leaked to the press, including some Chinese companies, on the grounds that it supplied Russia with equipment that can be used for military purposes.
The EU has implemented 10 sanctions packages against Russia so far.
In this framework, a wide range of restrictions were applied to Russia on trade, finance, energy, including oil and coal, industry, technology, transportation, luxury and dual-use goods, and the gold. The assets of more than 1,000 people and nearly 200 institutions were frozen. (AA)
