The European Commission wants to blacklist several Chinese companies because they are allegedly involved in evading sanctions against Russia. Blacklisting them makes trade with Russia more difficult, or so it is thought. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on the basis of sources.
EU member states will discuss new sanctions against Russia on Wednesday. These will be aimed at combating trade with Russia through countries such as China, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Central Asian countries and the Caucasus. No agreement on sanctions is expected on Wednesday. The plan would be sent today to the Member States.
Companies and individuals
In the case of China, it would affect seven companies that are no longer allowed to trade with the EU. According to the Financial Times, these are 3HC Semiconductors, King-Pai Technology, Sinno Electronics, Sigma Technology, Asia Pacific Links, Tordan Industry and Alpha Trading Investments.
The blacklist also includes individuals who may be involved in deporting Ukrainian children and transporting cultural property to Russia from the war zone in Ukraine, the sources told Reuters.
It would be the first time China has been punished by the EU for helping Russia in the war in Ukraine. A Chinese foreign ministry spokesman earlier warned that the EU should not take the “wrong path”. He said China is ready to act to protect rights and interests. “China opposes actions that hinder cooperation between China and Russia.”
