In Sudan, the parties came to the table for a ceasefire

It has been reported that the first talks between the representatives of the president of the Sudan Sovereignty Council and army commanding general, Abdulfettah al-Burhan, and the commander of the Rapid Support Forces (HDK), Mohammed Hamdan Dagalu, began in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The official agency of Saudi Arabia, SPA, included a joint statement by Saudi Arabia and the US on the subject. Recalling that the Riyadh and Washington administrations have taken political initiatives to end the ongoing conflict since April 15, the following statements were used:

“Saudi Arabia and the United States welcome the start of preliminary talks with representatives of the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces in Jeddah.”

The statement called on both sides to “fulfill their responsibilities to the Sudanese people, draw up a roadmap in talks to halt military operations and end the conflict.”
The joint statement also called for “the continuation of coordinated international support for an expanded negotiation process involving the participation of all Sudanese parties.”
