According to the Guardian story, police intervened while handing over a banner to Smith, leader of the republican movement, in London’s Trafalgar Square, where anti-monarchy demonstrations were taking place.

In addition to Smith, the police arrested 5 other people who were leading the demonstrations against the monarchy.

More than 2,000 protesters from Republican groups are expected to gather in Trafalgar Square in the next few hours. During the coronation of King Carlos III, 11,500 police officers are on duty in the city in case of possible demonstrations.

More than 8,000 guests attended Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation ceremony in 1953, which lasted three hours. The King Charles ceremony is expected to be shorter and smaller.
