Ukrainian MP Oleksandr Marikovsky punched a Russian interlocutor after he stole a Ukrainian flag during negotiations on a grain deal in Istanbul. Marikovsky himself had posted a video of the incident on Facebook.
The Ukrainian posed for a photo with a Ukrainian flag, behind the Russian delegate. The Russian turns, grabs the flag and runs away. Marikovsky chases, takes back the flag and hits the Russian. For safety, the Russian was taken to the hospital.
Turkey has condemned the violence. MP Mustafa Sentop calls the ‘provocation’ unacceptable. “This behavior disrupts the peaceful environment Turkey is trying to establish.” The Russian embassy in Turkey calls it an “outrageous incident”.
