Russia is forced to take military-technical and other retaliatory measures when NATO uses Finnish territory. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told the Tass news agency.
“We are closely following NATO’s plans regarding Finland,” Zakharova told TASS. “We affirm that Russia will be forced to take retaliatory measures, both military-technical and otherwise, to contain threats to our national security that arise in this regard,” the diplomat said at today’s briefing.
The spokeswoman also stressed that Moscow sees such plans as a loss of Helsinki’s sovereignty. “However, both Finland itself and NATO should realize that increasing troops in Northern Europe will only contribute to increasing military and political tensions in this region,” concluded Zakharova. On April 4, Finland officially joined NATO.
