Ceasefire reached after Israeli attack on Gaza
A ceasefire was reportedly reached between the parties in the besieged Gaza Strip, where the Israeli army launched an attack, and the region was quiet in the morning.
In the statement made by the Israeli army, it was noted that, according to the assessment of the situation and the orders of the command, “full routine was returned” in the region. The Israeli army’s attacks on the blockaded Gaza Strip and the firing of rockets from Gaza in the direction of Israel were said to have ceased in the morning.
The Palestinian groups shared the information that “after mediation efforts by many parties, a ceasefire was reached between Israel and the Palestinian groups as of 03:30.” It was announced that the secretary general of the Hamas Political Bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, held talks with Egypt, Qatar and the United Nations to stop Israel’s attacks at night.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Following the death of Palestinian prisoner Hıdır Adnan, who has been on hunger strike for 87 days in an Israeli prison, more than 30 rockets were fired in the direction of Israel from the blockaded Gaza Strip. 5 people were recorded to have been injured as a result of rockets fired from Gaza falling on residential areas.
Israeli warplanes also bombarded Gaza against rocket fire.
Palestinian prisoner Hıdır Adnan has been on a hunger strike for 87 days, which began against Israel’s “administrative detention” in prison without trial. Although Adnan said that he “faced the risk of certain death” if he was not transferred from prison to hospital due to his deteriorating health, the Israeli authorities denied this.
Adnan was reported to have died in the prison on the morning of May 2. (AA)
