Call for strike after 15 years in Hollywood: Large productions will stop

Hollywood film and television writers have announced that they will go on strike.

The Writers Guild of America (WGA), Walt Disney Co and Netflix Inc. announced they were going back on strike after 15 years due to disagreement with big business like the company over payments.

The decision is seen as a step that will have a serious impact on Hollywood and the entertainment industry as digital platforms boom.

“Company behavior has created an uncertain economy for unionized workers,” the WGA said in a statement. His unwavering attitude devalues the professional writing business,” she said.

The Association of Film and Television Producers (AMPTP), which represents major corporations, argued that the writers were offered generous salary increases. It is claimed that as a recession is expected in the US economy, large manufacturing companies are trying to limit wage increases to keep profits high.

HALF OF AUTHORS EARN MINIMUM WAGES

Screenwriters and writers point out that with the rise of digital platforms, wages have decreased and working conditions have become harsher. According to WGA data, half of the writers of famous television series work on minimum wage.

The WGA, which has 11,500 members, gives unions the right to call a strike as soon as the contract ends. In the event of a strike, filming of famous shows like The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and Saturday Night Live will stop.

The 2007-2008 Hollywood strike lasted 100 days and caused major productions to stop. This strike cost the California economy $2.1 billion.
